The Wyndham Learning Festival

This year is the fourth learning festival in our City of Wyndham which is now an annual event held each 1-8 September to coincide with the national celebration of Adult Learners Week.

During these eight days, there are over 100 free learning activities across the city for all ages, interests and abilities. The idea of the festival is to celebrate learning as a lifelong and enjoyable pursuit that enriches the lives of individuals and helps build a stronger more resilient and vibrant community. This year’s festival includes pyrography, African & Latin drumming, creative writing, Spanish, musical therapy, cooking, drawing, painting, lawn bowling, Refugee stories, Wyndham Pride photography exhibition, Burmese weaving, learning about Aboriginal culture, riverwalks and much much more!

Free Tai Chi and Qigong in Northcote

Tai Chi (Taijiquan in Chinese) is literally an internal Chinese Martial Art that has been practiced in China since the 16th Century. Qigong is “Energy/Breath Work” that dates back thousands of years. They are a tranquil and graceful way of keeping fit, improving your health, and helping to prevent the stresses and strains of modern living. Classes include Qigong breathing and meditation techniques; strength, flexibility, balance and coordination exercises; martial applications and forms. The classes are created as the perfect mind-body exercise program for all Australians based on well-researched and tested guidelines from the best sport universities, organisations and professionals in China and Australia. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Farnham Street Neighbourhood Learning Centre, 28 Farnham Street, Flemington, will celebrate forty fabulous years of adult learning on Thursday 5th September from 12-2pm.

The event will showcase all areas of learning over the years, including Adult VCE, Return to Study programs, English as an Additional Language classes, Language and Literacy for Employment, Certificate of General Education for Adults, Computer Training, Mental Health and Disabilities Art and Cooking Program, Community Garden, Community Choir, Gentle Exercise Program and more.

The event will also highlight the many learning partnerships between Farnham Street and the Flemington Community Centre, the Inner North Cluster, the Flemington, Moonee Ponds, Niddrie and Avondale Heights Libraries, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence and the local primary and secondary schools. It be held at the Centre and in the beautiful adjoining park.
