Fact or Faction: Read–Write–Connect during ALW2019 – Traditional trades

South West Rail and Heritage Centre WA Boyanup

Sunday September 8th

The Shire of Capel Libraries are hosting and organising a series of activities during Adult Learners Week. All activities are open to the community and will be presented in four locations across our Shire (Gelorup, Capel, Peppermint Grove Beach, Dalyellup and Boyanup).
We have named our ALW event: Fact or Faction to encourage the community to find out and be inspired about factual topics presented in innovative presentations and to learn how biographies and personal memoirs are written with a mix of facts and opinion.

Traditional trades

On the Saturday 8th September, will be a series of events and presentations at the Boyanup Rail and Heritage Centre.  There will be a speech by a blacksmith on the history of blacksmithing, blacksmithing demonstrations, a talk on how model trains work, a workshop by a young person on how to make paper.  The focus of this event from 10am  until  2.00pm will be to show the traditional trades and craft to the community and inspire the desire to learn and to volunteer.

Other Fact or Fiction: Read–Write–Connect activities include:

  • 2 September: Artificial intelligence: Our human future (Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School)
  • 3 September: Autobiography workshop (Capel Library)
  • 4 September: Felting (Capel RSL Hall)
  • 7 September: Botany and plants (Peppermint Grove Beach Community Centre)

Refer to the ALW events calendar for more details of these events.
