Be Connected is a free Australian Government initiative helping older adults to get the most out going online.

All about apps and online Hobbies

Come along to our early September sessions to get some great ideas on “apps”, where to get them and how to make the most of them. We then look at possible online resources for hobbies, fun and education, and suggest some apps and sites which may fit your interests. These include the Google suite of products: Maps, Earth and Arts and Culture, resources for the aspiring online blogger, and online learning. Morning tea is included.

Be Connected gives older adults an opportunity to participate in fun, free learning sessions that will increasing their confidence, skills, and knowledge to get online using everyday technology such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and computers.

There is a broad range of topics on offer from learning the absolute basics, getting to know your devices and how to get started online, to connecting with family, online hobbies such as researching your family history and most importantly, how to stay safe online.

State Library of Queensland is part of the Be Connected network and will deliver Be Connected learning session’s onsite Wednesdays and Fridays from 10.00am till 12.30pm, morning tea will be included. Each month we will focus on different learning topics (listed below) and you can book into as many sessions as you like.

Be Connected Learning Program can help you learn:

  • the basics and realise the full potential of going online
  • to be safe while you’re online
  • how you can use technology to talk to or see family and friends who live far away
  • how you can find new or old friends who share your interests and hobbies
  • to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in your community and around the world
  • how to shop online, safely and securely, without leaving home.

Sensei Launz and Sensei Amy are kindly presenting another 6-week course at Satsang Yoga Sanctuary. It is designed to show you how to reduce your chance of being the victim of an attack, and how to respond effectively to escape or end an attack if it should come. It is aimed at people without previous experience in martial arts, and offers a safe space to explore techniques that work effectively no matter what size or shape you happen to be.

Kogo (Knit One Give One) is a not-for-profit organisation that asks volunteers to donate time and wool to knit warm winter woollies that kogo then distributes to people in need through over 250 community groups.

We’re always looking for more hand knitted scarves, beanies, children’s toys or blankets.

Expert horticulturist Craig Castree will be at the orchard from 10 am to lunchtime every Friday. Anyone can turn up and learn practical skills such as grafting, pruning etc. Bring hat, gloves, sunscreen, your own refreshments, a pair of secateurs (named in case you mislay them).
